A lot of different people were asking us the same questions regarding either the hotel or this website. Therefore, we decided it was a good idea to start the Frequently Asked Questions departement.

• Do you speak English?
  Yes, like practically everyone else in Holland because we get taught that language from the age of seven.
• Is your hotel near the center of Amsterdam?
  Yes, and to be more precise: it's in the center.
• Is your hotel far from the airport?
  Not really. You can take a train from Schiphol airport to central station ( 2,90 / 20 minutes). From there you can take tram #4, and that will bring you to the Prinsengracht in about 10 minutes.
  Alternatively, you can take a taxi. This will cost you roundabout 35,= and takes anything between 20 and 45 minutes.
• Do you have televisions in the rooms?
  No, experience has taught us that some people enjoy playing MTV really loud in the middle of the night, and other people don't. We agree with the other people.
• What about this credit card stuff when I try to make a reservation? In our confirmation form we write that "credit card details will be treated confidentially and used only as a guarantee, not as payment". This works two ways and means we will hold your details until you've checked out. In the first place to meet the cancellation policy (see below) until you've arrived. We hold the room for you for 24 hours from the date of arrival, that's our part of the guarantee. If you're a "normal" person, that's all there is to it. If, however, you're a hooligan that demolished half the hotel, you can make sure that we will use your credit card number to make up for the damage. That's where your part of the guarantee comes in.
• What's your cancellation policy? Our cancellation policy is "48 hours prior to date of arrival, at 100% of the first night's accommodation". This means that if you cancel more than 48 hours before the date you were due to arrive, we will charge you nothing. If you cancel within the 48 hours however, we will charge you for one night. Under normal circumstances you should be able to claim this back from your travel insurance company, and we're happy to mail you a "no show" receipt upon request in order to support your claim.
• What do you serve for breakfast?
  Usually it's a mixture of white bread and brown bread (we don't discriminate) toasted or not, ginger bread, rusk, butter, jams/ jellies, chocolate spread, apple syrup, peanut butter, honey, meat, cheese, orange juice, coffee, tea or coffee and tea.
• Is your hotel non-smoking?
  The hotel itself hasn't smoked for years, but we do allow our guests to smoke in their rooms. With the window open.
• What did Hfl. stand for?
  It stood for Holland Florin and it was sometimes written as Dfl. (Dutch Florin) as well.
  Here in Holland we just wrote FL. and we pronounced it as gulden (guilder). This is all history now, as the Euro ( ) drove off most of the colourful currencies of Europe. For your information: one Euro equals Hfl. 2,20371
• Does the hotel have a curfew?
  No. You get a key for the front door, and we won't tell your mum at what time you got home last night.
• What is the difference between a twin room and a double?
  A twin room has two single beds, usually put together, and a double has one double bed in it. If you reserve a double room with us it can happen that we allocate you a twin. However, when you reserve a twin we will never give you a double. Then there is the single room, with only one bed in it and the triple rooms, that have three beds and can even be turned into a quad room after adding a fourth bed.

• Where can we park the car?
  Please have a look at our parking information page
• Is there a laundrette near the hotel?
  Yes. Go over the bridge here, take the first street left (Kerkstraat) and after about 50 meters you will see "Bejo" on your right hand side. They service wash as well.
• Can we bring our dog? No. Unfortunately Prins, our big, black house tiger, does not allow it.
• Is it far to walk to...
  No. For example: it would take you about 25 minutes to walk to the central station, at the other side of the city center. Amsterdam is a compact city with not even one million inhabitants.
• Do we need to bring towels?
  No, we provide towels and soap. All you have to bring is your toothbrush, toothpaste, clean socks and a change of underwear.
• And what about a hairdryer?
  Available free of charge, at the reception. Just ask.
• Can we hire...?
  Yes. You can hire cars, boats, mopeds, bicycles, canal bikes, inline skates, books, videos, costumes, men, women, office space, secretaries, guides, bodyguards, detectives and probably a whole lot more.
• Is there a good restaurant near the hotel?
  Yes there are plenty in Utrechtsestraat, ranging from South African to (nearly) North Polian.
• What will the weather be like today?
